You can choose between different types of tickets and travel cards which are all valid for buses, trains and the metro in the Copenhagen area. Your choice depends on how much and where you wish to travel during your stay.

You can buy your City Pass with the “DOT Tickets” app.

You can also buy City Pass at the ticket vending machine at all stations and at the airport.

Or you can buy your City Pass online at and receive it as an SMS.


You can choose between two areas:

  • City Pass Small covers the trip from the airport to the City of Copenhagen.
  • City Pass Large covers Greater Copenhagen

Single-trip ticket

You can buy single-trip tickets at ticket vending machines or 7-Eleven kiosks at the train and metro stations.

Additionally, you can buy single-trip tickets with the 'DOT Tickets' app.

About single trip tickets

The ticket may be used for the bus, train, metro and harbour bus, but only within the zones that you have purchased.

A 2-zone ticket covers most of central Copenhagen and allows you to travel for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Please be aware that a journey to or from the airport requires 3 zones. A 3-zone ticket costs DKK 36.00 and is valid for 1 hours and 30 minutes.

You can buy single trip tickets for the destination station or for the amount of zones you are travelling through.

Other ticket options


The Rejsekort is a popular travel card for travellers in Denmark.

The 'Rejsekort Anonymous' type does not require any registration and can be purchased at Rejsekort ticket machines on train and metro stations.

What you need to know when buying tickets
Where can I buy tickets?

Always buy a ticket before boarding the bus, train or metro.

Ticket machines

You can buy your ticket in ticket machines, which accept Danish coins and most common credit cards, or at 7-Eleven kiosks at the train and metro stations. (Please note that not all ticket types/travel cards are for sale via machines.)

At Copenhagen Central Station there is a DSB ticket office as well as ticket machines.

Tickets apps

You can purchase a ticket by downloading the mobile app ‘DOT Tickets’ for local tickets in and around Copenhagen.

Where can I use my ticket?

You can use the same ticket in the metro, bus, train and harbour bus.

What is a zone?

The Greater Copenhagen area is divided into zones the determine the price of your ticket.

You have to buy the amount of zones needed to get to your destination, although at least 2 zones when you start your travel. The price for 2 zones is 24 kroner.

Please note that this does not refer to the number of the specific zones, but the amount of zones you have bought.


Children and tickets

Two children under the age of 12 can travel free of charge when accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket.

Children travelling alone has to pay a child fare until the age of 16.

Ticket control

 Always have your ticket with you in case a conductor wants to see it.

Travelling without a valid ticket will result in a fine of up to DKK 750.

Ticket app

Use the app “DOT Tickets” to buy tickets or City Pass.
