About child and adult tickets
The price of a child ticket is half that of an adult ticket. In some cases, children travel for free. Read about children’s tickets here.
If you travel with a dog too large to fit in a bag, you must buy a child’s ticket for your dog.
Tickets (2-8 zones)
For your ticket to be valid, you must buy at least 2 zones. You pay for the number of zone rings you travel through, including the starting zone.
The ticket is valid for an unrestricted number of journeys by bus, train, and metro within the validity area and period.
The time validity of the ticket depends on the number of zones you purchase:
2 zones: 01.15
3 zones: 01.30
4 zones: 01.45
5 zones: 02.00
6 zones: 02.15
7 zones: 02.30
8 zones: 02.45
If you have given your permission to GPS localization for DOT Tickets app, the app will automatically find your starting zone and print it on your ticket.
To purchase a zone ticket, press the Buy ticket button on the app homescreen and make a from-to search. There may be several journeys to choose from with different zone numbers. Once you have selected your preferred journey, proceed to purchase the ticket.
Please note that another option is to press the preselected zone ticket purchase buttons on the app home screen to quickly purchase a zone ticket. By default, the app offers 2 and 3 zones, but if you previously bought other zone numbers, the fast purchase buttons will change to your favorite zone ticket number.
Please note that at times, you may have to pay different prices for the outward journey and the return journey, even if you choose the same route for both. Read more in the guidance document (Section 2.1) in Danish.
Single trip ticket (9+ zones)
A single trip ticket for more than 8 zones is valid for one naturally progressing journey by bus, train and metro from the starting zone to the destination zone.
The ticket is valid on the date that you purchase the ticket until 03:59 the following day.
You may choose when to begin your journey within this period of time, but once the journey has begun, you have to finish your journey without stops on the way. The ticket is only valid one way.
Commuter Card
With a Commuter Card, you may travel unlimited by bus and train within the commuter card’s validity area and period.
If you travel frequently by metro, we recommend you buy a metro commuter supplement for your commuter card. If you have purchased a commuter card without the metro commuter supplement, but you wish to travel by metro a given day, you can buy an extension (1 zone) ticket and gain access to the metro in the validity zones on your commuter card.
Read more about the Metro commuter supplement here.
A Commuter card is the cheapest ticket if you travel the same journey more than 26 times (13 round-trips) in a month.
A Commuter card is issued either for 2-8 zones, where each validity zone is printed on the card, or for more than 8 zones, where the starting zone and destination zone is printed on the card.
The Commuter card is personal and can only be used by the person for which it was issued.
You can purchase your Commuter card with a validity period that ranges from 30 to 60 days, and the starting date may be from “today” and 60 days ahead.
The number of remaining validity days is indicated at the top of the Commuter card. The Commuter card expires at 03:59 the day after the number of validity days. 24 hours before expiry, the counter changes to hours, minutes and seconds.
3 days before expiry, you will get a reminder to renew your Commuter card, both by email and by a notification in the app.
Your Commuter card’s validity area is indicated by a list of zones on the commuter card (swipe upwards to see the details) and graphically on the map on the app home screen.
Read more about extension tickets for commuter cards in the guidance document (section 5) in Danish.
Supplementary ticket for Commuter Card (1 zone)
If you have a Commuter Card or commuter pass, and you wish to travel across one more zone than covered by the Commuter Card/pass, you extend the validity area of your Commuter Card/pass by 1 zone by purchasing a Supplementary ticket for Commuter Card.
Note that the supplementary ticket is only valid together with a valid Commuter Card/pass.
If you have purchased a Commuter Card and have opted out of a Metro Commuter Card Supplement, you can travel with the metro in the same validity zones as your Commuter Card plus an extra zone by purchasing a Supplementary ticket for Commuter Card. You may do so within the validity period of the Supplementary ticket for Commuter card. The Supplementary ticket's validity time is 1 hour 15 minutes.
To buy a Supplementary ticket for Commuter Card, tap the fast purchase button with the text "+1 zone" and a plus on the icon on the app homescreen. Tap the zone that you wish to extend your Commuter Card with on the map. It must be adjacent to the validity area of your Commuter Card. If you purchased your Commuter Card in the DOT Tickets app, the Commuter Card's validty area will be indicated on the map.
Read more about extension ticket regulations in this guidance document (Section 5) in Danish.
NOTE: From 17 January 2021, the Extension ticket (1 zone) is only valid as an extension for Commuter Cards or other commuter passes, not for single tickets. Read more here.
